Manchester’s acoustic trio Skutch Manos combine demonic Spanish guitar with restlessly driving double bass and unrelenting drum and percussion beats. It’s a remarkable high-energy instrumental dervish jazz that’s big on thrills. Their well embellished compositions are an adventurous musical experience that paint a broad sonic image that you can close you eyes to or stare at in bewilderment. Influences include Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, John Butler Trio and Nitin Sawhney.
Skutch Manos will be joined by Kath Ord (the unthanks) and Aimee Suzanne Johnson on Violin and Viola adding an extra tension and timbre to their already massive sound. Their repertoire will be from the critically acclaimed ‘Mimosa’ album released in 2013 and new tunes from the upcoming album. Also making a guest appearance will be Helen Forshaw assisting the band perform interpretations of ‘CAN’ and ‘Led Zeppelin’
"Celtic folk and world music collide with buoyant vitality, simple ideas are jammed out and redreamed into sophisticated arrangements of Zeppelin-like proportions, their energy gets you hooked and they certainly don’t hold back!" Manchester Jazz Festival 2016.
"Totally riveting from the outset, Skutch Manos create the most entertaining, rhythmically exacting brew of flamenco, world music, rock and jazz" London Jazz 2016
