The Castaways formed in early 2012, inspired by Mel Howard’s love of Studio One Ska and Don Drummond’s unique style of trombone playing. He wanted to recreate the free-form, chilled-out sounds of early ska. Members include Mel Howard (trombone, vox), Linda Howard (alto sax/flute/ vox/percussion),Ed Hornby (tenor sax/vox), Fil Hill (guitar/vox), Robin Dewhurst (keyboards), Neil Marshall (drums) and Ollie Collins (bass/vox). Influences include Don Drummond and The Skatalites, Earnest Ranglin, Lord Tanamo, Jimmy Cliff, Prince Buster, Harry J. All Stars, Sonny Rollins, Storm Brewery beer, Macclesfield vibe.
Visiting the club at the weekend? Be prepared to dance or kick back and enjoy the band and atmosphere! People like to get up and dance in front of the stage. If you prefer a more laid back night, we recommend a Wednesday or Thursday evening.
