The Castaways are a 7-piece band playing a uniquely authentic mix of 1950's/60's ska, reggae, calypso and soul from the likes of The Skatalites, Earnest Ranglin, Jimmy Cliff, Prince Bister, Sonny Rollins and Don Drummond. It was formed in 2012 by Stockport-born trombonist Mel Howard, who was inspired by the chilled-out, laid-back soulful vibe of those early Jamaican jazz musicians (notably Don Drummond) who influenced the Coventry Two Tone gang amongst others. Manchester/Macclesfield based band members bring their own jazz, soul and rock influences to the mix, including Linda Howard (alto sax/flute/vox), Ed Hornby (tenor sax/vox), Pete Robinson (keys), Ollie Collins (bass/vox), Fil Hill (guitar) and Neil Marshall (kit).
Visiting the club at the weekend? Be prepared to dance or kick back and enjoy the band and atmosphere! People like to get up and dance in front of the stage. If you prefer a more laid back night, we recommend a Wednesday or Thursday evening.
