THE HORSE PUPPETS

8:00pm - 11:00Pm / FREE ENTRY | DOORS 7PM | HAPPY HOUR 7-8PM | GIG STARTS 8PM

We are really looking forward to local band The Horse Puppets hitting the M&P stage tonight to debut their new tracks. Come down and have a listen, you won’t be disappointed!

Thanks to a ‘borrow board’ behind the scenes of The Invisible Wind Factory, Liverpool, a Horse Puppet that should have been returned by ‘Molly’ 2 weeks before gave the band a new name.  A good job really as the previous suggestion of ‘The Suitcase 17’ was vetoed by Tommy’s missus who said it sounded like a front page headline for a murder in the 60’s.

The 5 piece band from Manchester, soon grew into a 6 piece, then a 7 piece as more instruments and sounds were added when recording their debut album.  ‘Sorry For The Inconvenience’ was recorded at Paul and Helen’s home studio in Manchester.

The band have a hybrid indie sound like the more ambient side of The Black Keys or The Arctic Monkeys, mixed with country pedal steel guitar, violin, double bass, electronic synths and large vocal harmonies.

THE BAND

Paul Blytheway - Vocal, guitar
Tommy Fuller - Upright and electric bass
Andrzej Baranek: Piano, Organ, Synth
Josh Savage: Drums
Poppy Smallwood: Vocals and Cello
Chris Hillman: Pedal Steel and Dobro guitar

CHUBE

9:00pm - 12:00am / FREE ENTRY | DOORS 6PM | HAPPY HOUR 6-8PM | GIG 9PM

Chube draw their inspiration from a wide variety of artists and genres and aim to write electro acoustic music that pushes the boundaries of their instruments. The harp features prominently in their performances, and there is regular usage of effects processors with the harp to take the harp from it's regular, classical sound, to a rock guitar through distortion, an ambient synth through delays and phasers, and much more.

Chube's performance features a true mix of genres and styles of music performed on a completely unique combination of electro-acoustic instruments. Their unique jazz fusion sets include lots of original tracks, such as the disco track 'Shift', ambient track 'Chryslism', and folk inspired tracks 'The Land' and 'Salty Tongue'. They also perform their own arrangements of well known covers such as Led Zepplin's 'When The Levee Breaks', Miles Davis' 'Milestones', and Herbie Hancock's 'Watermelon Man'.

Chube have performed at the Harp on Wight and Aberjazz Festivals, The Black Mountain Jazz Club as well as playing at independent shows alongside various bands. They are scheduled to appear at Wall2Wall Jazz Festival 2019 with special guest artist Dennis Rollins on Trombone. Tracks from their debut EP have been played to positive reviews twice on BBC Wales Introducing with Adam Walton and on BBC Radio 3s Jazz Now, and they are in the process of writing new material for a second EP.

“There are artists who are artists and just do whatever the hell they please….they clearly don’t give a fig for whatever bandwagons that pass through town” – Adam Walton, 10/02/18, BBC Radio Wales Introducing

9:00pm - 12:00am / FREE ENTRY | DOORS 6PM | HAPPY HOUR 6-8PM | GIG STARTS 9PM

Zingaro is a Merseyside-based vocal-led five-piece (or instrumental four-piece), moving effortlessly through classic 70s Fusion to Acid Jazz and beyond, with Latin and Soul inspirations.

With founder Kev Lovelady on keys and collaborative input from long-standing band members Brian McCusker on guitars and Chris Jones on basses and more recently Paul Keelan on drums, they have been fronted since 2018 by singer Naomi Adah. Keyboard & guitar textures and sympathetic drums & bass provide tasteful backing and inventive soloing to showcase Naomi’s soulful vocals. Striving to incorporate a positive human message with a social conscience whenever possible, Zingaro’s reworkings of well-known and not so well-known vocal and instrumental numbers along with original compositions offer a range of eclectic grooves, which balance being both listenable and danceable.
