Welcoming all musicians/singers to jam with the band - just chat to the band leader!
Led by Craig Hanson, some of the finest musicians on Manchester’s music scene are tonight’s house band. These fantastic individuals have come together through their love of creating innovative original music, and celebrating the forerunners from throughout history who harnessed their talent and musical conceptualisation to develop groundbreaking approaches to making music. Today, these artists are high-ranking inspiration for countless up-and-coming musicians, but the attitude held by those legends continues to pulse through the music scene.
It is this focus on the creation of music, in its most wonderful and broad approaches, which defines the Melody Makers Jam. This is a unique opportunity to get involved with like-minded creatives. Maybe you’ve got a particular tune in mind; or think that one classic would sound great arranged a different way; perhaps, even, you and a mate have been working on a track together but would love to hear what it sounds like on brass… The options couldn’t be more open, and you couldn’t hope for a higher calibre house band and more supportive audience to get things going.
When we spoke to Craig about hosting this Jam Night, he advocated a Jam based on music from the worlds of modern alternative pop, jazz, R&B, hip-hop, soul and great songwriting. Think artists ranging from Joni Mitchell to Jill Scott, Bjork to Beyonce, Kate Bush to Kendrick Lamar… Sound like your cup of tea? Bring along your instruments and vocal cords, have a chat with Craig and the band, and lets make some music.
More of a listener than a player? Book yourself a table and watch the night unfold, it’s fair to say absolutely anything could happen. One thing’s for sure, with this band and this vision, it’s going to be a good one.
A little on Melody Makers Jam leader, Craig Hanson:
Craig is an acclaimed musician on the Manchester scene. He performs and tours with many artists including 6x Grammy Nominated artist Yola. He was one half of spiritual funk jazz duo Skeltr, winning various awards and releasing two successful records. Craig is now working behind the scenes on his own brand new project (all to be revealed)…

Born and raised in Dallas Texas, Andrew picked up the piano and started gigging at the age of 14. By 21, they were delighting audiences on several different cruise ships, before eventually settling down and relocating to Manchester.
Combining a gravely low voice with raw foot-stomping Americana, you can expect an enthusiastic performance of American and British classics, as well as songs you never thought you'd hear on the keys. With interwoven mashups, oftentimes thought of spontaneously, prepare to let loose and hear an anarchic mix of songs in a dynamic anything-goes piano vocal performance.

Bob Haddrell (vocals/organ/piano) is a much in demand as a session player in this country, Bob also writes with top Nashville artists, has recorded in the States with Billy Swan, and has toured and recorded with Chicago's Jimmy Dawkins and Dave Specter. Truly "in the groove", Bob has created the unique sound of "The Barcodes". He has also performed with Alan Barnes, Art Themen, Jim Mullen, Zoot Money, Paul Jones, Shakey Vick, Chris Youlden, Bernie Marsden, Tim Hain, Pee Wee Ellis, Sonny Black, Nicky Payn, Gordon Smith & Earl Green. Bob has released his own CD 'Shaded Spot' on Note Records
A recent review of Bob’s latest album:
‘A Shaded Spot’ is a more blues oriented album but with many, jazzy inflections The main star is Bob Haddrell, who sings and plays eleven cuts in the path of Kansas or West Coast piano school, that is to say, swinging like Count Basie or Glenn Lloyd used to do, to only mention two quite different piano players.
And another review:
Bob Haddrell has a distinguished pedigree as one of the UK’s foremost blues keyboardists, and his work on the Hammond organ is renowned. The mark of a great Hammond organist is the addition of pedal bass, a feat of co-ordination which needs to be seen to be believed. With the addition of the occasional vocal, Bob is a musical powerhouse on the stage.
Tonight, Bob is joined by Derrick Harris on guitar and Paul Smith on drums.

Welcoming all musicians/singers to jam with the band - just chat to the band leader!
The big sounds of New Orleans come to M&P’s for the New Orleans Jam, held every 3rd Monday of the month and hosted by mighty house band The Nightcreatures. With a strong emphasis on the involvement of brass, these monthly Jam sessions are sure to make you feel like you’ve travelled over the Atlantic to Louisiana.
The New Orleans Jam sees our little jazz club filled with the blaring brass, Rhythm and Blues, Second Line Grooves, Street Beats, Funk, Rock’n’Roll, and Rhumba of New Orleans, where the round-the-clock atmosphere sees never ending music filling the streets… This is the music of Dr. John, Fats Domino, Jelly Roll Morton, and Professor Longhair, to name but a few, and those who come by to play at the jams follow in their footsteps tremendously.
NOLA tunes really are in a class of their own, being seen by many as the true origin of traditional jazz. The bringing together of musicians in New Orleans, to all be united by music, is all about the atmosphere of a live performance. Horns aplenty, thundering drums, heavy guitar riffs, and whatever other instrument might appear would come together to create a sound to celebrate life and ensure the party never stops. The M&P New Orleans Jam sees musicians from any background brought together by this same attitude to live music. So long as it’s played in a New Orleans style… Anything goes.
Come down and experience the wonders of the Jam happening in front of your eyes, and don’t be surprised if you’re persuaded to have a good old dance too.

Charlie Cooper writes vintage soul, updated perfectly, sung with deep and husky soul-pipes! Not only comparable with classic voices like Dusty Springfield and Shirley Bassey but also up there with modern soul divas Alice Russell and Sharon Jones, Charlie is a vocal force to be reckoned with.
The songs emerge from another time, influenced by the classic songwriting and arranging of Bacharach and Hal David, accompanied by grooves akin to old school Stax and Motown. This paired down piano solo gig will showcase this talented artist in an intimate setting.

Many have commented as to how Rowland Jones creates a conversation with the audience via his finely crafted melodic songs.
Iain Patience described him in Blues Matters (UK) as 'an experienced blues man, who knows exactly what to do with this music' Jones' music though clearly emerging from the blues shows a wide range of influences, and his songs have been favourably compared to John Martyn, Mose Allison and Jim Croce.
The Moveable Feast is a collection of Rowland's musical collaborators which has included C.J Hillman, Paul Burgess, Clive Mellor, and Mike Smith. The quartet this evening will be Rowland Jones on vocals & guitar, Liam Morson on keys, Bo Lee on bass, and Iain Mellor on percussion.

We are thrilled to welcome this incredible band to M&P’s, all the way from Luxembourg!
It has been 20 years now since the Benoit Martiny Band or BMB are jazz`n`rolling and that is of course a reason to celebrate with a tour and a live album! The jazz-rock band, formed in summer 2004 somewhere in between a garage in Rameldange and the streets of Rotterdam, has been playing all over the globe, from Luxembourg to Bahrain, from Hungary to Japan and from Germany to Venezuela.
The music they play is composed by Martiny and inspired by artists like Jimi Hendrix, Charles Mingus, Frank Zappa and King Crimson. Over the years BMB has released 7 albums and 2 DVDs. The band was nominated for the Dutch Jazz Competition in 2005 and won the Amersfoort Jazz Talent Award in 2008. Apart from touring all over Europe playing at festivals like Burg Herzberg Festival in Germany, Manchester Jazz Festival in the UK, Gaume Jazz Festival in Belgium and Oerol Festival in the Netherlands. The band has also played Sapporo Jazz Festival in Japan and Barquisimeto Jazz Festival in Venezuela. Their last album “Moons of Uranus”, a sort of Big Band Project, includes many legendary guests like Michel Pilz on bass clarinet, Itaru Oki on trumpet and flute, and Steve Kaspar on sound collages. The album received many positive reviews from magazines like “Eclipsed”(D), “Mint”(D), “Sticks”(D), “Tageblatt”(Lux), “Le soir”(B), “Jazzthing”(D), “Slagwerkkrant”(NL), "Jazzjournal"(UK).
BMB`s music is inspired by bands and artists like King Crimson, Soft Machine, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and Charles Mingus. They play original music composed by drummer Benoit Martiny and will take you on a journey through their jazz-rock universe.

Welcoming all musicians/singers to jam with the band - just chat to the band leader!
Every 2nd Monday of the month sees M&P’s become an unmatched nucleus of all things Jazz for both local musicians and visitors to musically express themselves in a way nowhere else can offer.
Led by Johnny Hunter and his band, musicians of any level, brought together by their love of Jazz, are welcomed to the M&P stage to jam the night away alongside some of the finest musicians in the North. This is a unique experience to come together with others to perform some classic Jazz, be it a 'standard' or something more modern, whilst showing the rest of the performers and audience your approach to improvisation.
Whilst the Jazz Jam can very much go anywhere, we are passionate about keeping things true to Jazz. These jams are all about recreating the atmosphere and excitement of 1940's venues Minton's Playhouse and Monroe's where this music was created, and musicians like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams learned their craft and developed the Bebop language.
Come along and watch the evening unfold. Anything can happen. Over the years, our famous Jazz Jam has attracted the likes of Chuck Perkins, Lonnie Liston Smith, Benn Clatworth, as well as members of Riot Jazz Brass Band, GoGo Penguin, and the Beats & Pieces Big Band. Who knows who might make an appearance tonight…

The Hybrid Sessions is a monthly jam at Matt & Phred’s, inspired by cutting-edge electronic artists like Floating Points, Maribou State, Thom Yorke, and Jojo Mayer.
What sets The Hybrid Sessions apart is its unique fusion of live music with electronic production. Musicians and singers have the chance to deconstruct and reshape digital sounds in real-time, pushing boundaries and exploring new ways to create.
Whether you're into jazz, drum and bass, or anything in between, this is your chance to experience—and be part of—the future of live music.
Hosted by artist and producer Laurie Agnew, these sessions are a creative playground for all musicians to take improvisation to a new dimension. The stage is open to instrumentalists and vocalists, with amps, mics, keys, a hybrid drum kit, and Ableton Push provided. We ask that musicians who play other instruments (e.g. guitars, horns, etc.) to bring them along.
Despite the tech, The Hybrid Sessions are laid-back and open to all, with Laurie and friends on hand to guide you through the process. It's all about improvisation, experimentation, and connection.
Want to join tonight’s jam? DM @the_hybrid_sessions on Instagram to secure your spot! There are limited spaces available for walk-ins on the night.
