We are very excited to be welcoming Pure Desmond to our little club, all the way from Germany! You’re in for a treat tonight, as Pure Desmond will not only be playing their arrangements of classic jazz standards, but also their fantastic repertoire ‘Pure Desmond Plays James Bond Songs’. It’s going to be a special one!

"Shaken, not stirred" - The world's most famous secret agent with the number 007 is just as much an epitome of style and taste as the sound of saxophonist Paul Desmond, who himself sounds like a "Dry Martini“.

The zest for life of the sophisticated agent films with their scenes in glamorous casinos fits perfectly with the elegant classical jazz music of Pure Desmond, the award-winning ensemble from Germany, whose new album and the accompanying concert program are dedicated to the legendary songs from the film series.

The range of compositions that shine on the album "Pure Desmond Plays James Bond Songs" in brilliant cool jazz quality ranges from the current "No Time To Die" by the American shooting starBillie Eilish to the original music of the 1960s. In the quartet's version, "From Russia With Love" becomes an airy samba with a pinch of subtle humour as the saxophonist of the Dave Brubeck Quartet might have interpreted it himself. "Tomorrow Never Dies" turns into a jazz ballad.

The four musicians of Pure Desmond manage the balancing act between these many different musical worlds and combine them into something new through their instrumental arrangements in modern cool jazz sound. With their interpretations, they take the listener on a journey through the world of James Bond- full of nasty villains, fast-paced chases, luxurious journeys and romantic flirts.

As a basic idea for Pure Desmond's very own band sound, the four musicians were inspired by the sound of the famous "Paul Desmond Quartet". Beside the band of Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond had his own band with Jim Hall on guitar. That is why Pure Desmond will also play various classical standards in these original Desmond-arrangements such as "A Taste Of Honey", "Theme From Black Orpheus" or "Rude Old Man". But, of course, Desmond's world hit with Dave Brubeck "Take Five" will surely round off the evening.
