My Generation, Manchester’s Coolest Cabaret Club Night, is back with the very best line up for 2026. Both regular guests and newcomers receive the warmest of welcomes and a guaranteed great night out.

These popular nights are aimed at those who frequented the northern club scene over decades gone by. A place where guests can experience the music and vibe reminiscent of the club scene they experienced as teens.

Guests can look forward to enjoying the sounds of the 60s, Soul, Motown and Northern Soul, however, our fabulous DJ Jeff has been known to throw in a bit of 70s DISCO and the odd 80s revival track. There’s always Live Music and we’re kicking off 2026 with a tribute to The Small Faces delivered by a great Stockport based band who have an ever-extending Song Book – covering all the 60s Mod Classics and more!

Expect a relaxed, safe and friendly atmosphere. It’s not about how you look, dress up, dress down, it’s up to you. It’s all about music and dancing.

Introducing our live act for the evening – The Tall Faces are a powerhouse of musical muscle, specialising in the British Mod Sounds, with a fast-pace set of MOD, Soul, R’n’B, Northern Soul and Beat.

This dynamic band have honed their craft focusing on melody and harmony – they really are one of the tightest bands around.

Their love of Beat music is evident in the choice of the artists they pay tribute to, classic bands such as The Small Faces, The Who, Kinks, The Beatles, Spencer Davies Group, The Hollies, Dave Clark Five and many more.

A word on Table Bookings: Tables for these popular Cabaret Club Nights are managed directly by the hosts at My Generation Mcr. Unfortunately tables for this event are completely sold out but, to enquire about table bookings for future events, contact Tracey at mygenmcr@gmail.com or check out their Group Page at facebook.com/mygenerationmcr

Every 1st Monday of the month sees our resident Blues band, fronted by the fantastic Franny Eubank, take to the stage for a night of music like no other.

The band will jam the night away with players of any standard, staying true to what Blues is all about. This is the music of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Etta James, Little Walter, Leadbelly, Aretha Franklin, and all those greats who defined Blues properly since the early 20th Century.

Come equipped with your steel guitars, basses, mouth organs, sticks, vocal cords, or whatever other instrument you play, and join this mighty house band to either play one of the classics or see where the beat takes you… That’s the joy of the Blues. Oh, and don’t be surprised if Franny asks you to join in on a song mid-way through it!

More of a listener than a player? No problem. Kick back in our candle-lit club in the company of gritty lyricism, 12-bar riff-led tunes, and the all-round powerful performances that the M&P Blues Jam has to offer. This is one of those nights that you simply won’t want to end.

Welcoming all musicians/singers to jam with the band - just chat to the band leader!

Every 2nd Monday of the month sees M&P’s become an unmatched nucleus of all things Jazz for both local musicians and visitors to musically express themselves in a way nowhere else can offer.

Led by Johnny Hunter and his band, musicians of any level, brought together by their love of Jazz, are welcomed to the M&P stage to jam the night away alongside some of the finest musicians in the North. This is a unique experience to come together with others to perform some classic Jazz, be it a 'standard' or something more modern, whilst showing the rest of the performers and audience your approach to improvisation.

Whilst the Jazz Jam can very much go anywhere, we are passionate about keeping things true to Jazz. These jams are all about recreating the atmosphere and excitement of 1940's venues Minton's Playhouse and Monroe's where this music was created, and musicians like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams learned their craft and developed the Bebop language.

Come along and watch the evening unfold. Anything can happen. Over the years, our famous Jazz Jam has attracted the likes of Chuck Perkins, Lonnie Liston Smith, Benn Clatworth, as well as members of Riot Jazz Brass Band, GoGo Penguin, and the Beats & Pieces Big Band. Who knows who might make an appearance tonight…

BOOK A TABLE (FREE)

Booking a table is recommended, but you can just turn up if you’re happy standing. For bookings of 9+ guests, or if you’d prefer a phone reservation, call 0161 273 5495 (10am-5pm Mon-Fri) / 0161 831 7002 (5-11pm Mon-Sat).

Depending on one’s level of interest in the horseless carriage, the initials JDM might well conjure images of a 1996 Toyota Supra RZ - made, of course, for the Japanese Domestic Market…

It’s therefore an appropriate name for a new trio led by Dave Walsh; someone whose love of a good automobile is well-known amongst the musical community. There are many more, however, who know him for his superlative drumming with countless jazz greats, award-winning singer-songwriters, and chart-topping pop acts alike.

Proceeding alphabetically, the J of the trio is guitarist Jamie Taylor - himself a seasoned player who has been heard with some of the finest jazz musicians from either side of the Atlantic. Though proudly Yorkshire based, Jamie’s bop-influenced guitar work is also heard on a regular basis at legendary London venues like Ronnie Scott’s and The Troubadour.

Finally, the fulcrum of any organ trio is the musician behind the console, which brings us to M: the wonderful Martin Longhawn. Martin, who is perhaps best known to jazz audiences for his work with the excellent Svarc/Hanley/Longhawn group, has been establishing himself as a much in-demand pianist and organist over the last ten years. His command of this most difficult instrument is certain to win him many more admirers in the years to come.

Musically, Trio JDM draws inspiration from the great legacy of Jimmy Smith and Larry Young, as extended today by artists like Goldings/Bernstein/Stewart. Nevertheless, this is no tribute act; expect to hear accessible original music alongside material from a wide range of composers and eras.

Trio JDM is:
Dave Walsh - drums
Jamie Taylor - guitar
Martin Longhawn - organ

Known for their uniquely interactive live performances, Boomslang thrive on real-time musical conversation — twisting complex harmony, breakneck rhythms and deep grooves into something unpredictable and electrifying, with Nat Evans on EWI adding soaring, otherworldly lead lines that blur the line between human and machine.

Welcoming all musicians/singers to jam with the band - just chat to the band leader!

The big sounds of New Orleans come to M&P’s for the New Orleans Jam, held every 3rd Monday of the month and hosted by mighty house band The Nightcreatures. With a strong emphasis on the involvement of brass, these monthly Jam sessions are sure to make you feel like you’ve travelled over the Atlantic to Louisiana.

The New Orleans Jam sees our little jazz club filled with the blaring brass, Rhythm and Blues, Second Line Grooves, Street Beats, Funk, Rock’n’Roll, and Rhumba of New Orleans, where the round-the-clock atmosphere sees never ending music filling the streets… This is the music of Dr. John, Fats Domino, Jelly Roll Morton, and Professor Longhair, to name but a few, and those who come by to play at the jams follow in their footsteps tremendously.

NOLA tunes really are in a class of their own, being seen by many as the true origin of traditional jazz. The bringing together of musicians in New Orleans, to all be united by music, is all about the atmosphere of a live performance. Horns aplenty, thundering drums, heavy guitar riffs, and whatever other instrument might appear would come together to create a sound to celebrate life and ensure the party never stops. The M&P New Orleans Jam sees musicians from any background brought together by this same attitude to live music. So long as it’s played in a New Orleans style… Anything goes.

Come down and experience the wonders of the Jam happening in front of your eyes, and don’t be surprised if you’re persuaded to have a good old dance too.

Charlie Cooper writes vintage soul, updated perfectly, sung with deep and husky soul-pipes!

Not only comparable with classic voices like Dusty Springfield and Shirley Bassey but also up there with modern soul divas Alice Russell and Sharon Jones, Charlie is a vocal force to be reckoned with.

The songs emerge from another time, influenced by the classic songwriting and arranging of Bacharach and Hal David, accompanied by grooves akin to old school Stax and Motown.

QOW TRIO is a unique multi-generational jazz band featuring award-winning young firebrand saxophonist Riley Stone Lonergan, British Jazz legend Spike Wells (Tubby Hayes, Bobby Wellins) on drums, and multi-genre bassist and bandleader Eddie Myer. The trio initially got together through their mutual love of Sonny Rollins' classic piano-less trios of the 1950s but soon found themselves expanding their repertoire to explore the rich and varied territory laid out by the great tradition of big-toned tenor players over the generations.

QOW TRIO are back with a barnstorming third album on the prestigious Whirlwind Records, with the fearless threesome roaming further than ever before into the uncharted hinterlands where the deep jazz tradition of the tenor trio, laden with melody and swing, ventures into the untamed regions of free improvisation.

At the heart of the band is the unmistakeable beat of drummer Spike Wells, who this year celebrates his 80th birthday and the 65th year of his extraordinary career at the forefront of UK jazz, providing the driving force behind everyone from Tubby Hayes to Bobby Wellins to Stan Getz to Roland Kirk and countless others. Spanning the generations and riding at at his side are rising star saxophonist Riley Stone-Lonergan, whose intriguing compositions and boundless creative imagination as an improvisor continue to dazzle and delight, and big-toned bassist Eddie Myer rounding up the posse.

Their first album ‘QOW TRIO’ was selected as critic’s choice by Jazzwise Magazine for 2021. The follow-up ‘The Hold Up’ was described by BBC Music Magazine as ‘a stunning achievement” and awarded 4**** by The Times and The Scotsman.

They’ve spent the intervening time touring across the UK and EU and developing their sound to a new creative peak. Now ‘The Rule Of Three’ shows that three really is the magic number with their most coherent, wide-ranging and adventurous set of recordings yet. From Ayler to Strayhorn, from be-bop to calypso, from cowboy movie to free-jazz shootout, there’s a surprise at every turn, but always delivered with total sincerity and conviction and a driving desire to bring the audience with them every step of the way.

Plus, it’s HAPPY HOUR 6-11PM - that means buy 2 drinks and get a whole FREE PIZZA or get 2 house cocktails for just £15!

Welcoming all musicians/singers to jam with the band - just chat to the band leader!

Led by Craig Hanson, some of the finest musicians on Manchester’s music scene are tonight’s house band. These fantastic individuals have come together through their love of creating innovative original music, and celebrating the forerunners from throughout history who harnessed their talent and musical conceptualisation to develop groundbreaking approaches to making music. Today, these artists are high-ranking inspiration for countless up-and-coming musicians, but the attitude held by those legends continues to pulse through the music scene.

It is this focus on the creation of music, in its most wonderful and broad approaches, which defines the Melody Makers Jam. This is a unique opportunity to get involved with like-minded creatives. Maybe you’ve got a particular tune in mind; or think that one classic would sound great arranged a different way; perhaps, even, you and a mate have been working on a track together but would love to hear what it sounds like on brass… The options couldn’t be more open, and you couldn’t hope for a higher calibre house band and more supportive audience to get things going.

When we spoke to Craig about hosting this Jam Night, he advocated a Jam based on music from the worlds of modern alternative pop, jazz, R&B, hip-hop, soul and great songwriting. Think artists ranging from Joni Mitchell to Jill Scott, Bjork to Beyonce, Kate Bush to Kendrick Lamar… Sound like your cup of tea? Bring along your instruments and vocal cords, have a chat with Craig and the band, and lets make some music.

More of a listener than a player? Book yourself a table and watch the night unfold, it’s fair to say absolutely anything could happen. One thing’s for sure, with this band and this vision, it’s going to be a good one.
