Led by Dave Luvin, some of Manchester’s most highly acclaimed musicians are the house band any singer would be delighted to have behind them. With a particular focus on Jazz, Neo-Soul, and R’n’B, the band passes the microphone to those individuals who have singing or MC’ing simply in their blood.

Put your usual backing track of a pair of headphones away as tonight you have a top class house band there to jam your favourite track, with you under the spotlight. You don’t even have to have a particular song in mind, just give the band an idea of the vibe and see where the beat takes you. The house band will remain on stage for the entirety of the evening, meaning that all singers and vocalists have the opportunity to join them and perform.

Reminiscent of the infamous after-dark downtown NYC jam nights, this is a unique opportunity in Manchester where vocalists are the centre of attention. In the audience you can expect to have some special guests of the band to be invited on stage, some familiar faces from the MCR music scene, and of course a very supportive audience. Who knows, by the end of the night you may have even formed a band…

Lovers of Jill Scott, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Sarah Vaughn, and all in that side of the genre, this is for you. Kick back with a smile on your face while listening to a classic track you had forgotten how much you loved, or listening to a track that neither you nor anyone else has heard before…

Tonight’s VOX Jam will featured vocalist AJ LeRoy.

AJ LeRoy is a UK based singer, musician, songwriter and performer. Throughout his early years he was surrounded from an eclectic mix of artists; his weekends would be spent listening to the sounds of jazz and soul greats through his grandparents’ record player; while his mother’s musical taste introduced him to art-rock singers and folk-crossover artists. Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Minnie Riperton, Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell and Lianne La Havas are among the artists who have influenced his musical style.

At the age of 16 AJ studied Performing Arts at Elliott-Clarke Theatre School and following that studied further at London’s Institute of Contemporary Music Performance where he honed his skills in music performance, arranging and songwriting. Since then he has performed as a soloist in various venues across the UK including The Echo Arena, The Barbican Centre and the Sheffield Crucible, along with both national and international touring productions and residencies.

Now, after years of working primarily as vocalist in the live entertainment industry, he is working on the recording and release of his debut E.P. AJ’s music uses abstract poeticism to explore themes of introspection, relationships and connectivity.

His single Blackstrap Molasses is available for download at https://ajleroy.bandcamp.com/releases
