The Toby Brazier Sextet are a band of musical brothers and sisters from Leeds and Bradford bringing together a diverse and eclectic range of musical experience.
Together, they perform a wide range of improvisation styles tapping into influences of the likes of Miles Davis, Kenny Wheeler, Kenny Garrett, Thelonious Monk, Woody Shaw, Victor Lewis and many other jazz greats. They perform a mix of original fusion compositions by band leader Toby Brazier plus a modest portfolio of jazz standards arrangements by band member Will Powell. An album aptly named ‘crisis point’, is included in their repertoire also which was recorded just before the lockdowns.
The band was formed in 2019 and was reformed in 2022 following the end of the pandemic. In 2023, they've already kicked off with some fab local gigs and look forward to a busy spring and summer períod. The lineup includes some of the finest musical talent the north has to offer with Will Powell on guitar, Sam Jackson on bass, Josh Smout on drums, Anna Chandler on Sax, Joe Boyes on Keys and bandleader Toby Brazier on Trumpet.
The performance will include music from the album by Toby Brazier with songs like 'Chimes for Africa', 'Crisis Point' and ''Conscience', all of which take influences from Fusion/Funk/Latin and Swing. Alongside this will be modern jazz and hardbop tunes 'Along came betty' (Benny Golson), 'Hey, it's me you're talking too' (Víctor Lewis), and 'Dolphin Dance' (H. Hancock).
