You could not ask for a more perfect pre-Christmas treat. We fell in love with Honey Bee Jazz as soon as we met them. A group of absolutely lovely individuals, who are all superb at what they do. Come along and get cosy, and do be surprised if you end up having a dance too!

Honey Bee Jazz is a collective of Jazz musicians from around the world that met in Manchester to study music, and created a session jazz band. Since then, the up and coming 4-piece band has gone from strength to strength, continually arranging songs to showcase around the MCR jazz scene.

For this extra special gig, HBJ will play popular jazz, in styles such as Swing, Ballad, and Bossa Nova, from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, as well as jazz rearrangements of music from pop genres from the 1980’s til the 2020’s… And yes, of course, the band will be playing some jazzed up covers of all-time classic Christmas songs!

The Line Up:
Katerina Kaifa - Vocals
Nikolas Kallithrakas - Drums
Tom Miles - Piano
David Grundy - Bass

This Christmas season, Matt & Phred’s is teaming up with Help Musicians for a very special event: ‘Brassed Christmas’.

Join us on Saturday 23rd December 2023 for an evening of live Christmas tunes, whilst supporting a fantastic cause. A top-tier brass band will perform an open-air set on Stevenson Square at 5pm, and then lead everybody back to M&P's for 5:30, where special guests will join them throughout a 60 minute performance of festive magic.

With the core band consisting of Tom Sharp (trumpet/piano), Tim Hurst (trombone), Tom I'Anson (trombone/trumpet), Will Blackstone (trumpet/drums), and Al Simpson (bass), you can expect the classics (The Pogues, Wizzard, Slade… to name a few) as well as other feel-good numbers. Joining the band will be some of the musicians who M&P’s works with on a regular basis, coming together at this special time to mark another year of wonderful music.

‘Brassed Christmas’ is in aid of Help Musicians, a charity who helps at times of crisis, but also at times of opportunity, giving musicians the support they need at the crucial stages that could make or break their career. They love music and want a world where musicians thrive. As an independent, grassroots music venue, M&P’s is proud to take this step in developing something bigger within the community. Donations will be welcome at the event, and through the link below if you can’t make it.

All ages are welcome (until 7pm), and it’s Happy Hour the whole time - so you can get a free pizza when you buy two drinks, or get two house cocktails for £14. And it’s FREE ENTRY! Tables are not reservable in advance, so get down early for the best chance to get one, otherwise there is lots of standing room.
