Speakeasy Bootleg Band are purveyors of the "Finest Quality Bootleg Music Since Records Began.... Distilled & Bottled in New York and Chicago", but consumed wherever finer things are appreciated. Firm favourites of M&P audiences, Speakeasy Bootleg Band play a heady mix of Jazz, Jive and Harlem swing; the vintage sounds of the Cotton Club and Birdland. A first-rate combination of irresistible brass, powerful bass, explosive drums and sophisticated witty vocals to make your Saturday night a hugely fun affair.

This is the music of Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway, Billie Holliday, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey and Count Basie, with a bit of stylish Rat Pack thrown in for good measure, the retro tunes which drove Tin Pan Alley and created the Great American Songbook.

With the members of the band having an abundance of musical experience, you can truly sit back and appreciate just how spectacular a performance Speakeasy Bootleg Band bring to the stage. Not only masters of their repertoire, but hugely entertaining showmen sure to keep the smile on your face in between songs. Feel like you’ve been thrown back to the times of prohibition as you enter our dimly lit Jazz club with one of the finest Jazz and Swing bands around filling the space with their mesmerising sound.

The line up: Nick Branton (reeds), Phil Lucas (trumpet, vocals), Jeff Lewis (trombone, vocals), Andy Hulme (guitar), Alan Jeffs (bass), Jab Butters (drums).

Joe Tatton is a pianist, organist, singer & songwriter who emerged from the diverse Leeds music scene around 2001, playing up and down the UK’s jazz, funk and soul clubs. He is a current member of famed quartet The New Mastersounds and has been playing with them for over 16 years.

As part of NMS, Joe has recorded over a dozen albums and many singles, playing organ, piano and keyboard. During this time he has toured 8-9 months a year with the band, mainly in the USA but also across Europe and Japan too. Prior to this, Joe held down the keyboard role with UK jazz-funk kings The Haggis Horns, appearing on their first two albums Hot Damn! and Keep On Movin’. He’s also featured on piano/keyboards on the worldwide hit single “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae.

Over the years Joe Tatton has played live sets with Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley as well as Art Neville, George Porter Jr. and Zigaboo Modeliste of The Meters. He’s always maintained his own trio under his own name as a side project, releasing singles and EPs via ATA Records (UK) and Color Red Music (USA).

For this evening’s set, you can expect Joe on vocals and piano to perform a selection of his stunning original music, as well as some select covers from across the ages, in the genres of Jazz, Blues, Folk, and Soul.
