The Gelatos are a high-energy, all-singing Jazz trio playing the all-time classic songs of the 40’s and 50’s with an Italian twist. Impossible Conversations is a dynamic jazz ensemble that blends the deep roots of traditional jazz with the bold sounds of contemporary music. Drawing on influences ranging from iconic legends such as Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, to modern trailblazers like Kamasi Washington and Yussef Dayes, the band crafts a unique sonic landscape that resonates with both jazz purists and adventurous new listeners alike.
The interplay between the trumpet and sax often recalls the dynamic energy of classic frontline duos, yet the compositions move fluidly into improvisations which never lose their strong melodic content. The rhythm section, anchored by the steady pulse of the drums, bass and keyboard, provides a foundation that both propels and complements the melodies, creating a truly collaborative musical experience.

The Sam Lightwing Quartet brings together four musicians who are graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music.
The group draws on inspiration from all periods of jazz (think Chick Corea, Joshua Redman and Herbie Hancock), as well as unique arrangements of standards, and some latin, funk, and blues tunes for good measure! The group has a fundamental appreciation for improvisation and that is at the fore for this evening.
