Hill Trio are a Manchester-based group, tonight playing a diverse and approachable mix of Jazz Standards and original compositions.
The trio is made up of:
Matt Hill - Drums
Matt (Fisherman Dice) is a drummer working across jazz, funk, rock and improvisation, known for his versatility as both a live and touring musician. Alongside performing live professionally, he has built a reputation on the North West scene for collaborative projects spanning contemporary jazz, indie and experimental music. His work reflects a broad set of influences and a flexible, groove-focused approach to drumming, with regular appearances in both original projects and cross-genre live performances.
Richard Jones - Piano
Richard is a pianist, improviser and composer whose broad musical background spans classical violin, jazz and improvisation. After years performing in other artists’ projects, he formed his own trio, Angle Shades, with Joshua Cavanagh-Brierley and Johnny Hunter. His playing has been described as “achingly lyrical” by All About Jazz, with London Jazz News praising his “scintillating piano inventions”. Alongside leading his own projects, he regularly performs with groups including Beats & Pieces Big Band, Nishla Smith Quintet and Emma Johnson’s Gravy Boat, while also collaborating on crossover projects with Manchester Camerata and Manchester Collective. Improvisation remains central to his musical output, both as a performer and composer.
Tim Williams - Double Bass
Tim (NONUNONU) is a Manchester-based bassist working across jazz, improvised and contemporary music projects on the North West scene. Known for his collaborative approach and versatile playing, he performs regularly with a range of ensembles and live projects, contributing both electric and double bass across jazz, groove-based and experimental settings. His work reflects a strong grounding in improvisation and ensemble playing, with appearances at venues and festivals around Manchester and beyond.
