The Toby Brazier Qiartet come from Leeds and Bradford, where they perform regularly in and around the local jazz scene.
The band focuses on the bebop, hard bop and post-bop periods of jazz, performing great tunes from the 1940s, 50s and 60s through to the modern day. Their repertoire regularly spotlights the music of legends such as Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Charlie Parker, to name just a few.
Tonight’s performance is a special celebration of Miles Davis, marking what would have been the jazz icon’s 100th birthday just days earlier. Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in jazz history, Davis continually reshaped the sound of modern music across multiple decades.
For the first set (7-8pm), the quartet will perform Miles Davis’ landmark 1959 album ‘Kind of Blue’ in its entirety. Widely regarded as one of the greatest jazz albums ever recorded, Kind of Blue revolutionised the genre through its pioneering use of modal improvisation and its beautifully spacious, lyrical approach to ensemble playing. Featuring timeless pieces such as ‘So What’, ‘Freddie Freeloader’ and ‘All Blues’, the album remains one of the most celebrated and influential recordings in jazz history.
After a short break, the second set (8:15-8:45pm) will feature a selection of other classic Miles Davis tunes from across his remarkable career.
If you’re a lover of classic jazz, and particularly the music of this true icon, this is not a night to miss.
