Francesco Negri, Viden Spassov, and Francesco V. Parsi are three young musicians from different cities in Italy, namely Genoa, Turin, and Florence. They met at the Nuoro Jazz 2021 seminars, where, thanks to a fortunate twist of fate, they found themselves together as winners of the annual scholarships for the best students. This marks the birth of the Nugara Trio, who decide to pay tribute to their place of birth and the magic of Sardinia with a name derived from "Nugoro," an ancient name for Nuoro.

Three musicians, three different souls, three spirits that have crossed paths almost by chance, like three lines that intersect in the unknown of infnity at a single point—the point of convergence, the point from which the Trio's music is born. It is a music that defes easy artistic and genre categorization, rich, complex, and melodic. Each of the three musicians brings their own musical and cultural baggage to the album, often in confict, the result of a creative process that is never mundane and sometimes contradictory, yet always capable of achieving a degree of balance and harmony that makes "Point of Convergency" an album that lives its own life and renews itself in each of its eight tracks.

Like the vertices of a triangle converging at a central point, the three musicians have infused their compositions with some of their major musical infuences, to which they owe a debt. From classical and romantic music to folk and world music, pop, progressive rock, and fnally jazz, which, with its ability to absorb inspirations and return them with a new face, completes the circle.

Depending on one’s level of interest in the horseless carriage, the initials JDM might well conjure images of a 1996 Toyota Supra RZ - made, of course, for the Japanese Domestic Market…

It’s therefore an appropriate name for a new trio led by Dave Walsh; someone whose love of a good automobile is well-known amongst the musical community. There are many more, however, who know him for his superlative drumming with countless jazz greats, award-winning singer-songwriters, and chart-topping pop acts alike.

Proceeding alphabetically, the J of the trio is guitarist Jamie Taylor - himself a seasoned player who has been heard with some of the finest jazz musicians from either side of the Atlantic. Though proudly Yorkshire based, Jamie’s bop-influenced guitar work is also heard on a regular basis at legendary London venues like Ronnie Scott’s and The Troubadour.

Finally, the fulcrum of any organ trio is the musician behind the console, which brings us to M: the wonderful Martin Longhawn. Martin, who is perhaps best known to jazz audiences for his work with the excellent Svarc/Hanley/Longhawn group, has been establishing himself as a much in-demand pianist and organist over the last ten years. His command of this most difficult instrument is certain to win him many more admirers in the years to come.

Musically, Trio JDM draws inspiration from the great legacy of Jimmy Smith and Larry Young, as extended today by artists like Goldings/Bernstein/Stewart. Nevertheless, this is no tribute act; expect to hear accessible original music alongside material from a wide range of composers and eras.

Trio JDM is:
Dave Walsh - drums
Jamie Taylor - guitar
Martin Longhawn - organ

The big sounds of New Orleans come to M&P’s for the New Orleans Jam, held every 3rd Monday of the month and hosted by mighty house band The Nightcreatures. With a strong emphasis on the involvement of brass, these monthly Jam sessions are sure to make you feel like you’ve travelled over the Atlantic to Louisiana.

The New Orleans Jam sees our little jazz club filled with the blaring brass, Rhythm and Blues, Second Line Grooves, Street Beats, Funk, Rock’n’Roll, and Rhumba of New Orleans, where the round-the-clock atmosphere sees never ending music filling the streets… This is the music of Dr. John, Fats Domino, Jelly Roll Morton, and Professor Longhair, to name but a few, and those who come by to play at the jams follow in their footsteps tremendously.

NOLA tunes really are in a class of their own, being seen by many as the true origin of traditional jazz. The bringing together of musicians in New Orleans, to all be united by music, is all about the atmosphere of a live performance. Horns aplenty, thundering drums, heavy guitar riffs, and whatever other instrument might appear would come together to create a sound to celebrate life and ensure the party never stops. The M&P New Orleans Jam sees musicians from any background brought together by this same attitude to live music. So long as it’s played in a New Orleans style… Anything goes.

Come down and experience the wonders of the Jam happening in front of your eyes, and don’t be surprised if you’re persuaded to have a good old dance too.

Every 2nd Monday of the month sees M&P’s become an unmatched nucleus of all things Jazz for both local musicians and visitors to musically express themselves in a way nowhere else can offer.

Led by Johnny Hunter and his band, musicians of any level, brought together by their love of Jazz, are welcomed to the M&P stage to jam the night away alongside some of the finest musicians in the North. This is a unique experience to perform an improvised piece, a Jazz standard, or even a Jazzy twist on a pop tune, accompanied by a stellar line up and in front of a full audience.

Whilst the Jazz Jam can very much go anywhere, we are passionate about keeping things true to Jazz. These jams are all about recreating the atmosphere and excitement of 1940's venues Minton's Playhouse and Monroe's where this music was created, and musicians like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams learned their craft and developed the Bebop language.

Come along and watch the evening unfold. Anything can happen. Over the years, our famous Jazz Jam has attracted the likes of Chuck Perkins, Lonnie Liston Smith, Benn Clatworth, as well as members of Riot Jazz Brass Band, GoGo Penguin, and the Beats & Pieces Big Band. Who knows who might make an appearance tonight…

Warmly welcoming the mighty Hijack Horns back to the club this evening, after a mega first gig in March. It’s going to be a big one - let’s show some love!

Hijack Horns grabs a fist full of feel-good tunes, a handful of high-energy brass, throws it all in a blender and serves you the spiciest, brassyest smoothie your aural tastebuds can handle. Made up of players from long established street bands who are no strangers to the impromptu alfresco rave, this new band squashes the punch of a much bigger outfit into a slinky 5-piece, all the while slapping harder than Will Smith at the Oscars.

Powered by their perennial appetite to bring the party to the people, the Hijack Horns philosophy is simple - life's too short to watch other people dance.

Hijack Horns uphold a strict "All Killer No Filler" policy, with classics from Stevie Wonder, George Benson and Curtis Mayfield through to The Human League, Fatboy Slim and Outkast. Rest assured the guaranteed delivery of a floor-bouncing set that'll leave your ears ringing.

The band will jam the night away with players of any standard, staying true to what Blues is all about. This is the music of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Etta James, Little Walter, Leadbelly, Aretha Franklin, and all those greats who defined Blues properly since the early 20th Century.

Come equipped with your steel guitars, basses, mouth organs, sticks, vocal cords, or whatever other instrument you play, and join this mighty house band to either play one of the classics or see where the beat takes you… That’s the joy of the Blues. Oh, and don’t be surprised if Franny asks you to join in on a song mid-way through it!
