The Castaways are a 7-piece band playing a uniquely authentic mix of old school Jamaican and 1950’s/60’s Caribbean ska, reggae, calypso and soul. With influences from the likes of The Skatalites, Earnest Ranglin, Jimmy Cliff, Prince Bister, Sonny Rollins and Don Drummond, what’s not to like?!
The band was formed in 2012 by Stockport-born trombonist Mel Howard, who was inspired by the chilled-out, laid-back soulful vibe of those early Jamaican jazz musicians (notably Don Drummond) who influenced the Coventry Two Tone gang amongst others.
The collection of Manchester/Macclesfield based band members bring their own jazz, soul and rock influences to the mix, making an all-round fantastic set of music which is just a rare pleasure to experience live.
You’ll definitely be wanting your dancing shoes and your most tropical shirt for this one!
The Line Up:

Ed Hornby - tenor sax/vox
Mel Howard - trombone
