The Tobie Medland Quartet sees up and coming young Violinist and Composer Tobie Medland joined by a stellar line-up of a archtop guitar, rhythm guitar, and double bass. Join the quartet for a night of some of the best Gypsy Jazz you’ll come across. As a genre, Gypsy Jazz is hugely admired and enjoyed by audiences and musicians alike, and this band is a truly fine example of what an impressive and fun night of music it can bring.
By fusing elements of Contemporary Classical and Modern Jazz with virtuosic group improvisation the ensemble are pushing the boundaries of Gypsy Jazz, allowing the genre to reflect the stylistic developments of American Jazz.
Tobie himself has played across the UK as well as toured Eastern Europe and featured on numerous recordings, including Lou Clarke and The All Scars Band’s “Greatest Hits,” album, the BBC’s “Waking the Dead” OST. To date, Tobie’s own three excellent releases are: “Pavement Jazz”, “Dream Diary” and “Things Ain’t what they Used to Be”. Tobie is also director of the “Gypsy Jazz Festival of London”, GJFL Records (now with a charity release out featuring Nigel Price, Ian Shaw, Antoine Boyer and 37 other top jazz names) and is launching a new Gypsy Jazz label later this year…

Alligator Gumbo are a 7 piece New Orleans jazz band from Leeds, who have been playing together since 2011. Having played extensively around the country, and often packed out Matt & Phred’s, we can’t wait to see them again.
A gig with Alligator Gumbo sees jazz from the hey-day of the New Orleans swing/jazz era, when music was raw and largely improvised with melodies and solos happening simultaneously which has now become defined as the 'New Orleans' sound.
As well as the band’s unique and fast-tempo treatment of the classic tunes, Alligator Gumbo take this distinctive style and apply it to their arrangements of more modern and popular songs which everyone will recognise and happily head to the dance floor upon hearing.
